Fundraising at Sarcan

5 February 2021

We have started an account at Sarcan for bottle donations, if you or someone you know would like to donate to the club! When you take your recycling to Sarcan, there is a “Drop & Go” computer, type in “Troyanda”, enter the number of bags/boxes you are dropping off, a label will print off for each one, attach them to the bags/boxes and place into the racks, you are done! Super easy!

Sarcan has also added us to their “groups” list for donations so that anyone can donate to our club! They ask that you use boxes for glass and don’t put any glass in the bags and also mentioned that if there are any caps on the bottles, that those get automatically donated to Telemiracle.

Hello everyone!

Please see the link below for the October Newsletter.

We will be having another costume return night this Thursday, October 22nd as many people forgot to bring costumes last week. Tammie will be at the Yorkton Victory Church (North Entrance at 38 Bradbrooke Dr.) to collect all costumes from last year for all dancers. Please place your costumes in a bag labelled with your name, and drop them off with her between 5:00-8:00 PM. If you have hutzul slippers, we would like them to be returned at the same time. I will make sure I send a reminder email Wednesday evening!!!

We will also be moving out of our technique classes and into our regular groups starting in November. If your child hasn't taken part in the technique classes they are still welcome to sign up for the groups. Please contact me to figure out which group/time your child would be scheduled for.

Have a great week!

з Днем подяки!

12 October 2020

We are so thankful for all of our Troyanda students and families, and for being able to dance in a time of uncertainty! Happy Turkey Day everyone!

Masks for classes starting tomorrow

30 September 2020

Upon discussion with Serhiy and the board, we have come to the conclusion that for tomorrow's and future classes ALL dancers should wear masks, until the board decides otherwise. In Manitoba this is a requirement for all dance students currently and we feel it is the best decision given the current circumstances within our community to keep all of our dancers, instructors and volunteers as safe as possible. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact us.

Thank-you,

Troyanda's Board of Directors

DAY ONE of dance classes today! So happy to be dancing again!

24 September 2020

It was nice to see all the new faces and returning dancers today! It was definitely a different start with our Covid guidlines, but we had so much fun on our first day back to dance class!

Check out our gallery for first day pics!

It's officially dance season!

19 September 2020

Just a reminder of what to expect today on the first day of class:

Bring your student to Yorkton Victory Church at 38 Bradbrooke Drive (formerly the Ukrainian Orthodox Hall) 5-10 min before class time, we will be using the doors on the North side of the building in the parking lot. Please ensure to remain in your vehicle until you are waved in by your instructor. Remember to maintain physical distancing when approaching the building. One at a time (or with their sibling if in the same class), your child will be greeted at the door and taken to the dance room. Once their class is complete, they will be released in the same manner.

We understand for our youngest dancers it might be a little scary to not have a parent present the first day or two of class, so we will allow one parent per family ONLY for those that require it. Parents will be required to wear a mask and to not stand on the dance floor.

Please remind your student:

  • they will need to sanitize their hands before and after class
  • we will also have wipes for them to sanitize their water bottles
  • no changing rooms will be available, please come in dance attire
  • long hair needs to be in a bun
  • do not bring extra belongings and no food allowed
  • masks are recommended while getting to and from class but not required

Class times:

  • Ages 3-6 @ 5:00-5:30
  • Ages 7-12 @ 5:45-6:45
  • Ages 13-18 @ 7:00-8:00
  • Adults @ 8:15-9:15

Dance Attire:

Girls

  • Bodysuits & leotards or fitted athletic/dance wear
  • Long hair MUST be in a ballet bun
  • Black jazz slippers (younger groups)
  • Black jazz shoes (older groups)

Boys

  • T-shirts & sweat/jazz pants or shorts
  • Black jazz slippers (younger groups)
  • Black jazz shoes (older groups)

Any families looking for new dance shoes can buy locally in Yorkton or Canora at ExtravaDance. Also you can find the items for sale and what people are looking for at this Used Dancewear Sale link, I will keep updating this as we go!

Christie will be at the church all evening to accept payments for registration as well.

Can't wait to see you all today!!!

Introductions and Information – 2020/21 Dance Season

5 September 2020

Hello everyone and welcome to Troyanda's 2020-2021 dance season!

Firstly, I would like to thank our 2019/20 board members, our instructors and assistants, and all of our families for all of their hard work the past year with an unexpected twist that brought our club and many other things to a halt. Some of our board members have resigned from their positions this year and a new board was chosen at our Annual General Meeting that was held on September 3rd.

So, with that being said, I would like to introduce myself: I am Stacie Fahlman and I will be Troyanda's president this dance season! Over the past four years I have held a few different positions on the Troyanda board and I have been a Troyanda dancer in the adult groups since 2010, my daughter joined the club in 2017 and my son in 2019. I have Ukrainian danced with multiple other clubs over the years, as well as instructed for four Ukrainian dance groups including Troyanda! Those who know me know how passionate and dedicated I am to Ukrainian dance and culture, so I am very VERY excited and looking forward to a different but fantastic year for our children and club! I would also like to welcome and introduce our board members: Sheri Ferris (Vice President), Christie Ockochinski (Treasurer), Cheryl Mikolas (Secretary), Megan Mickelson & Verena Popowich (Past Presidents), Michelle Eckhart (Fundraising Coordinator), Tammie Latimer and Elyse Thomas (Costume Coordinators).

This season of dance will begin in Yorkton on Thursday, September 24th; Serhiy and Liana Zabutnyy will be back to instruct! The first month of this dance year will look slightly different than previous years. Upon receiving all registrations, we will be dividing the children based on age and will be starting with technique. Covid-19 guidelines will be followed and will be explained in further detail below. These technique classes will be used as an assessment tool for the instructors and children will be placed into groups according to their abilities, we want all of our dancers to be challenged and in a group that they will succeed in!

As for the Covid-19 guidelines, we will be preparing a page on our website for our club. Most of where we are getting our information from can be found at the links at the bottom of this post. Here are some key points of the guidelines:

  1. Class sizes will be limited and class schedules will be staggered to allow for the smallest possible traffic volumes and time for sanitizing of all rooms and surfaces between groups.
  2. No gatherings or spectators permitted; Parents will walk their child to the door and a designated person will ensure they get to their class.
  3. All dancers and instructors will sanitize their hands before and after class.
  4. No changing areas will be provided; dancers will be required to show up and leave in their dance clothes and long hair will need to be pulled back into a bun.
  5. Limited belongings are allowed to come inside with the students; please ensure your child has their own water bottle if needed and it will be sanitized at the studio entrance before being taken into class. No food allowed.
  6. Absolutely no sick children or instructors will be permitted in the studio.
  7. Floors will be gridded off in approximately 6’x6’ sections for each child, which they will remain in throughout the class.
  8. Masks are not required for in class but students may wear them if they would like. Masks are recommended but not required while getting to and from class within the building.

As you all know, we really can’t predict what this entire year will look like for performances (etc.) as details on Covid-19 have been changing almost daily! But we will continue to monitor the changes and keep the club informed and adjust accordingly, let's all keep our fingers crossed for the better! At this time, we are hoping to have some sort of choreography for the groups, even if it is just bits and pieces to keep our kid’s mind’s engaged, but social distancing will be applied. It is sounding like in-person competitions will not be happening this year, however there are clubs that will be doing on-line competitions which we may be able to take part in!

Take care and stay safe!

Stacie
